Build wreaths that hold together and hang straight

Learn the bases, the wiring, the bow, and the design rules real florists use

Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This course teaches the techniques that separate a wreath that lasts from one that falls apart in a week: matching the base to the materials, cutting and wiring stems into bundles, and binding them onto the frame under tension so they grip. You will build a fresh evergreen wreath on a wire box frame, a dried-and-faux wreath on a grapevine base, and tie a multi-loop bow with streamers that sits straight. By the end you can look at any pile of foliage, blooms, and accents, pick the right base and mechanics, and assemble a wreath with deliberate focal points, even coverage, and a clean back that hangs flat.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Select the correct base (wire single-wire, wire box, grapevine, foam, straw) for fresh, dried, or faux materials

02

Cut, condition, and bundle fresh and dried stems, then wire them so they hold without sagging or shedding

03

Bind bundles onto a frame under continuous tension using paddle wire so coverage is even and secure

04

Tie a multi-loop florist bow with a centre and streamers that sits straight and holds its shape

05

Design a balanced wreath using focal points, the rule of three, and a consistent direction of travel

06

Plan and build season-specific wreaths and finish the back so they hang flat and last their intended life

Module 1

Module 1: Bases, Tools, and Mechanics

Learn which base belongs under fresh, dried, or faux materials, and the small kit of wire and tools that does the holding. Choosing the right foundation is the decision the whole wreath stands on.

Module 2

Module 2: Wiring and Building a Fresh Wreath

Turn loose evergreens into wired bundles and bind them onto a frame under tension for full, even coverage. This is the core mechanical skill the whole craft depends on.

Module 3

Module 3: Dried, Faux, and the Florist Bow

Build a lasting wreath on a grapevine base from dried and faux materials, then tie the multi-loop bow that finishes most designs. These techniques cover the wreaths that live longest.

Module 4: Seasonal Design and Finishing

Apply a repeatable design framework to build distinct wreaths for each season, then care for, store, and price them. This is where technique becomes a finished, lasting product.
