Course Overview
This beginner course teaches watercolour landscape painting as a sequence of repeatable skills rather than happy accidents. You will master the wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques, paint graded skies and soft clouds, build foreground texture, and use warm and cool colour to create depth. The course ends in the field, where you learn to simplify a real scene and finish a small painting on location.
Learning Outcomes
Control water-to-pigment ratios to execute flat, graded, and variegated washes on stretched paper
Paint soft skies and clouds wet-on-wet and add crisp detail wet-on-dry without muddying earlier layers
Build a limited landscape palette and mix natural greens, greys, and atmospheric distance from a few pigments
Use warm and cool colour temperature and aerial perspective to create convincing spatial depth
Create foreground texture using dry-brush, lifting, salt, spatter, and negative painting
Simplify a real outdoor scene into values and shapes, then complete a small plein-air watercolour on location
