Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

Intermediate UX designers often know the vocabulary but struggle to execute a coherent, evidence-driven process from research brief to tested prototype. This course closes that gap by walking through each phase — discovery, definition, ideation, and validation — with specific tools, real templates, and worked examples drawn from commercial product contexts. You will build the judgment to make defensible design decisions, run your own usability tests, and communicate your work clearly to clients and stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Plan and execute user research sessions that surface genuine behavioural insights rather than opinion

02

Build personas and journey maps that drive design decisions, not just decorate presentations

03

Apply information architecture principles to structure complex content and navigation

04

Produce annotated wireframes that communicate intent clearly to developers and stakeholders

05

Run moderated and unmoderated usability tests and synthesise findings into actionable recommendations

06

Evaluate any interface against Nielsen's heuristics and articulate severity-ranked improvement priorities

Module 1

Module 1: Discovery: Understanding Users Before You Design

Effective UX begins with evidence, not assumptions. This module teaches you how to plan and run research that reveals what users actually do, need, and struggle with — and how to turn raw data into design-ready insights.

Module 2

Module 2: Definition: Personas, Journey Maps, and Problem Framing

Research data is only valuable if it shapes decisions. This module teaches you how to translate insights into design tools — personas, journey maps, and problem statements — that keep the team aligned and focused on real user needs throughout a project.

Module 3: Structure and Wireframing: Designing Before You Design

Information architecture and wireframing are the structural disciplines of UX — the stage where abstract insights become concrete, testable designs. This module teaches you how to organise content and communicate design intent before a single pixel is placed.

Module 4: Validation: Usability Testing and Heuristic Evaluation

Designing without testing is guessing. This module gives you the complete toolkit for evaluating designs through structured usability tests and expert heuristic reviews — and for turning findings into clear, prioritised recommendations.
