Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This beginner course teaches the complete garment-construction workflow used by home and indie sewists: setting up and troubleshooting a sewing machine, decoding tissue patterns and ease, selecting and preparing fabric, and assembling clothing with clean seam finishes. Each module ends in a real project so theory turns into a wearable result. By the end you can sew a lined tote, an elastic-waist skirt, and a basic woven top with darts, a zipper, and a hem.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Thread, calibrate, and troubleshoot a sewing machine for woven and knit fabrics

Read a commercial pattern envelope, choose a size from body measurements, and adjust ease

03

Select and pre-treat fabric using fiber, weight (GSM), grain, and drape

04

Sew and finish straight, curved, and enclosed seams with French, flat-felled, and serged finishes

05

Construct darts, a centered or invisible zipper, an elastic waistband, and a clean hem

06

Complete three wearable projects: a lined tote, an elastic-waist skirt, and a darted woven top
