Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This hands-on course teaches modern hand lettering on the iPad using Procreate, the gap between scribbling words with a finger and building a confident, sellable lettering piece. You will set up brushes with the right Streamline, taper, and pressure curves so your strokes glide; work on separate sketch, refine, and ink layers so every word is editable; learn brush-script anatomy, bounce, and textured scripts; and finish by vectorising your lettering into a crisp SVG that scales to a logo, a mug, or a billboard without going fuzzy. You will leave able to letter a custom word or quote and hand off a clean vector file.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Configure a lettering brush in Procreate by tuning Streamline, taper, and the pressure curve for smooth, controlled strokes

02

Build lettering on stacked construction layers (skeleton, refine, ink) so every word stays editable and fixable

03

Apply brush-script anatomy and contrast, thick down-strokes and thin up-strokes, to make hand lettering read as lettering

04

Add bounce by riding letters off the baseline on purpose while keeping rhythm and spacing controlled

05

Build textured and rough-script effects using grain brushes, clipping masks, and alpha lock without muddying the strokes

06

Vectorise raster lettering into a clean SVG using a vectorising app and export a scalable, print-ready file

Module 1

Module 1: Setting Up Procreate for Lettering

The canvas, the brushes, and the brush settings that actually decide whether your strokes glide or wobble, so you letter on a tool that is tuned for the job rather than fighting it.
