Draw Any Space So It Holds Together

Learn perspective as a buildable system: horizon line, vanishing points, one- to three-point construction, foreshortening, and a fisheye finale.

Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This beginner course teaches perspective as a buildable system rather than a vague feel for depth. You will learn to anchor every drawing to a horizon line and vanishing points, construct boxes and rooms in one-, two-, and three-point perspective, divide and multiply space with diagonals, and foreshorten figures and objects correctly. By the end you can draw a convincing interior, a street of buildings, and a fisheye scene from scratch, and diagnose why a wonky drawing reads as wrong.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Set a horizon line and eye level and place vanishing points that control an entire scene

02

Construct boxes and forms accurately in one-, two-, and three-point perspective

03

Divide, multiply, and repeat depth using diagonals, the X-method, and measuring points

04

Draw believable interiors and exteriors with consistent scale and cast shadows

05

Foreshorten objects and simple figures so depth reads without looking distorted

06

Build a basic five-point curvilinear (fisheye) scene and know when to use it

Module 1

Module 1: The Horizon Line and One-Point Perspective

Build the foundation every perspective drawing rests on: the horizon line as your eye level, the vanishing point, and the single-VP system that turns flat shapes into receding space.

Module 2

Module 2: Two-Point Perspective and Measuring Depth

Move off the straight-on view to the workhorse of architecture and product drawing: two vanishing points, plus the diagonal tools that let you measure, divide, and repeat space accurately.

Module 3: Three-Point Perspective and Foreshortening

Add the third vanishing point for dramatic high and low views, then tackle foreshortening: making objects and figures recede toward the viewer convincingly.

Module 4: Interiors, Exteriors, and Curvilinear Perspective

Put the whole system to work on complete scenes, add light and shadow that obey perspective, then step beyond straight-line perspective into the curved, wide-angle world of fisheye drawing.
