Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This course teaches macramé as a repeatable craft, not a one-off project. You will learn how cord fibre, ply, and millimetre size change a finished piece, master the square knot and half-hitch knot families, follow a full wall-hanging pattern, and finish professionally with combing, trimming, and colour knotting. By the end you can read a pattern, estimate cord, and produce sale-ready work.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Select the correct cord type, ply, and diameter for any project and calculate how much you need

02

Tie the full square knot family including alternating, spiral, and switch knots cleanly and consistently

03

Tie the half-hitch family including diagonal, horizontal, and vertical clove hitches to form bars and shapes

04

Read and execute a complete wall-hanging pattern from mounting to bottom edge

05

Comb, trim, and shape fringe and finish ends so a piece looks professionally made

06

Plan and knot multi-colour designs using colour-blocking and ombré placement

Module 1

Module 1: Cord, Tools and Your Workspace

Understand the materials before you knot. This module covers how fibre, ply, and diameter behave, what tools you actually need, and how to estimate cord so you never run short mid-project.

Module 2

Module 2: The Square Knot Family

The square knot and its variations are the backbone of macramé. Master the base knot, then learn the alternating, spiral, and switch variations that build nearly every flat panel.
