Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

Life drawing is the discipline that underpins all figurative art, and it is learned by drawing thousands of poses, not by reading. This course gives you the working systems professionals actually use: the gesture line, head-count and eight-heads proportion, the bony and muscular landmarks you can see on a model, and the light logic that turns flat outlines into solid bodies. You finish able to set up a session, run a structured warm-up, and take a 30 to 40 minute pose to a fully shaded study.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Capture the action and rhythm of a pose in a 30-to-90-second gesture drawing using line of action and C and S curves

02

Measure and lay in accurate proportions using the eight-heads canon, sight-size, and comparative measuring with a pencil

03

Locate and draw the key bony and muscular landmarks of the torso, pelvis, and limbs from a living model

04

Construct the figure from simplified masses (rib cage, pelvis, head) and contrapposto weight shift before adding detail

05

Render three-dimensional form by mapping the planes of light, halftone, core shadow, reflected light, and cast shadow

06

Run a complete life-drawing session from timed warm-ups through one finished long-pose study

Module 1

Module 1: Seeing, Setup, and the Gesture

Establish what life drawing actually trains, set up materials and a session structure, and learn the single most important skill: capturing a pose in seconds.
