Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This course teaches you to manage a residential lawn the way a turf agronomist does, using soil tests, grass-species identification, and a season-by-season calendar instead of guesswork. You will learn to mow at the correct height, apply the right amount of nitrogen at the right time, identify and control weeds, and set up irrigation that produces deep roots. By the end you can diagnose problems and run a year-round program for cool-season or warm-season grass.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Interpret a soil test report and apply lime, sulphur, and phosphorus by the numbers

02

Identify your grass species and set mowing height and frequency to match it

03

Build a nitrogen-based fertiliser calendar measured in pounds per 1,000 square feet

04

Diagnose and control the most common broadleaf, grassy, and sedge weeds

05

Plan core aeration and overseeding with realistic seeding rates and timing

06

Set irrigation run times that deliver one inch of water per week and winterise the lawn
