Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This course teaches hand knitting from absolute zero through your first wearable garment. You will master the long-tail cast-on, the knit and purl stitches, and how they combine into stockinette, garter, ribbing, and seed stitch, then learn to read written patterns and charts, hit a target gauge, shape with increases and decreases, and finish work with blocking, seaming, and clean bind-offs. Every technique is paired with the underlying reason it works so your knitting is consistent and your fit is predictable rather than lucky.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Cast on, knit, purl, and bind off with even tension and correct stitch orientation

02

Read written patterns and stitch charts including abbreviations, repeats, and gauge statements

03

Knit and measure a gauge swatch and recalculate stitch counts to hit a target size

04

05

Work in the round on circular and double-pointed needles using the magic loop method

06

Block, seam with mattress stitch, and weave in ends to finish a hat, cowl, and simple sweater
