Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This course walks you through the real maintenance tasks a homeowner can safely do on a central furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or boiler. You will learn to read MERV ratings, clean condenser and evaporator coils, wire a common thermostat, bleed radiators, and seal ducts with mastic. Every lesson draws hard lines around the work that legally and safely requires a licensed HVAC technician.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Replace air filters correctly and choose the right MERV rating for your equipment

02

Clean evaporator and condenser coils without bending fins or voiding warranties

03

Wire and configure a low-voltage thermostat using standard R, C, W, Y, and G terminals

04

Bleed hydronic radiators and check boiler pressure to restore even heat

05

Seal and insulate accessible ductwork with mastic and UL 181 tape to cut energy loss

06

Run seasonal startup and shutdown checklists and recognize when a problem requires a licensed pro
