Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This beginner course teaches the concrete skill that underlies all figure drawing: capturing the energy and intent of a pose before any detail. Through timed pose sprints, the line-of-action and CSI-curve method, rhythm chains, and the Loomis landmark system, you will train your hand to draw life first. By the end you can scaffold a believable, dynamic full figure on a gesture that you drew in seconds.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Find and draw a single line of action that captures a pose's energy and direction

02

Complete 30-second, 1-minute, and 2-minute timed poses with a clear, escalating workflow

03

Build rhythm and flow through the figure using connected C, S, and I curves

04

Place the figure on the page using Loomis landmark heights and head-count proportions

05

Distinguish gesture, structure, and contour so you know what to draw in what order

06

Carry a fast gesture into a finished figure without losing its life and movement
