Make flat illustration that looks designed, not default

Palette systems, flat-shape depth, and a shippable illustration set for real products

Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

Flat illustration looks simple but the good work is engineered: a small locked palette, a single light direction, and depth built from flat shapes instead of gradients. This course teaches the whole pipeline from grid and shape language to a reusable component set, using Figma, Illustrator, and a tight color system. You finish with a cohesive spot-illustration set you can drop straight into a real product.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Build a 6 to 12 swatch flat palette with a fixed light, mid, and shadow ramp

02

Construct characters and props from primitive shapes on a base grid

03

Add readable depth using flat shadows, occlusion shapes, and a single light source

04

Convert a flat style into semi-flat with long shadows, grain, and accent highlights

05

Produce a consistent spot-illustration set sized for UI empty states and marketing

06

Export, name, and hand off SVG and PNG assets a developer can use without edits
