Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) is the practice of shaping how people experience a space through typography, color, image, and material. This beginner course takes you from reading an architectural floor plan to producing a print-ready supergraphic package and a fabrication-ready handoff. You will work in real units, real substrates, and real budgets, and you will learn the language architects, general contractors, and sign fabricators actually use.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Read a floor plan and reflected ceiling plan to locate graphics in real space at the correct scale

02

Translate a 2D brand identity into wall murals and supergraphics that work at architectural scale

03

Specify substrates, vinyls, and inks matched to interior or exterior service conditions and lifespan

04

Build a print-ready large-format file at 1:1 or scaled, with correct bleed, tiling, and resolution

05

Coordinate a project with architects, general contractors, and fabricators using shop drawings and RFIs

06

Assemble a graphics package, message schedule, and budget that survive a real installation
