Course Overview
This course takes an absolute beginner from unpacking the instrument to playing simple melodies and two-octave scales in first position. You learn the physical mechanics of a balanced seated setup, a Franco-Belgian bow hold, clean open-string bowing, and accurate left-hand finger spacing. By the end you can read bass and tenor clef, tune with fine tuners, and practise with a structure that compounds week over week.
Learning Outcomes
Set up a balanced seated posture with the correct end-pin length and instrument contact points
Form a relaxed Franco-Belgian bow hold and produce a clear, even tone on all four open strings
Place left-hand fingers accurately in first position using the whole-step and half-step pattern
Play one- and two-octave C, G, and D major scales with consistent intonation
Read and play notes fluently in both bass clef and tenor clef
Tune the cello with fine tuners and maintain rosin, strings, and bow hair
