Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This beginner course teaches the durable analytical method behind caricature rather than a single artist's style. You will learn comparative measurement against the average face, the exaggeration hierarchy that decides what to push and by how much, and the likeness anchors that keep a drawing recognizable no matter how far you distort it. You will finish able to analyze any face from photo or life, build a controlled exaggeration, render it cleanly in pencil or in Procreate or Photoshop, and execute a fast live quick-sketch under time pressure.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

04

Construct the head on the Reilly or Loomis framework so exaggerated features still sit correctly

Render a finished caricature cleanly in pencil and digitally in Procreate or Photoshop

06

Execute a fast live quick-sketch from a real person under a five to ten minute time limit
